Finally, an UPDATE!
Yes, you heard right folks, Laura is finally updating her blog! A bit of exciting news, and then the rest of the trivial details that make my life
truly interesting (in a trivial and mundane sort of way).
By now, you may already know my exciting news. But I know of at least two faithful readers and great friends who are still in the dark....
Our family is growing! You read that right. After grappling with indecision on whether I wanted to try for a third child vs getting an IUD,
my indecision made the choice for me. :-) We're happy, but by baby 3, the whole thing is pretty uninteresting to me. I'm sure it'll make for an
exciting Christmas season.
In other news, now that I'm not on the verge of puking my guts out 90% of the time, we're having a great summer. I've decided to invest in an
East Bay Parks Regional District (EBRPD) Membership. We went to a really cool class today at one of the Regional Parks, and while I was there, I picked up a few
cool pamplets. I am excited. Membership will get us free parking and free access to swim facitilies. This will be a great addition to our weekly routines.
I've started trying to walk the kids to area playgrounds in the afternoons, in the hopes of making the kids tired and thus, moving up bedtimes. A
nice side effect is I'm getting more exercise, and I feel a lot healthier. It also forces us to get out of the house and away from the computer/ TV. (I'm sure
we have less screen time than most Americans, but I can really tell when we've crossed the line into "too much." We're starting to collect some nice
big pinecones to use in projects this winter.
I also investing in the kindergarten Oakmeadow curriculum, which is AWESOME. We're not using it 100%, but it's nice as a supplement to our
daily activities. We started a lesson book which will have drawings from the fairy tales/ stories we read (related to a "letter" of the week) and the
associated letter. We're sort of working on a nature table, and I'd like to do more "nature study" and nature walks. Thus my excitement over the EBRPD
membership. I really think that will help a lot. (That's ofen my- lame- excuse not to go on these outtings: parking fees. Silly, eh?)
After extensive consideration, we decided to go ahead and try COIL for a while. I feel pretty ambivent about it, and when I finally go in (in August)
to meet our advisory teacher, I will definately be voicing my concerns. (Can they really meet their standards/ expectations/ whatever with an unschooling
child? How will the other siblings be handled during meetings? Does it really "not matter" what grade Jade is put down as being a student in?)
I guess it's getting late and I should put my poor kids to bed. Hope all is well with my friends and family.
