This Mama's Madness is a place for me... Yes, me,
the self-absorbed, crazy bipolar, redunant, would-be writer
and stay-at-home mom who just who happens to be
homeschooling her oldest daughter and generally just trying
to get through the day. While we are talking labels, I'm an
attachment parenter, part time cloth diaperer, part time ec'er,
and ecological breastfeeder. Want More?
If you don't already know enough about me, my name is Laura.
My two sweet girls are Jade Mickayla, born October 30, 1998, and Nova Gabriella,
born March 27, 2002.

Put up our Solstice Tree Today.
It's beautiful. Just an inexpensive artifical tree from Sears (65% off!), but it's got a string of pretty white
lights, gold ribbon, and some classy ornaments. We had candy canes on it too, but those are gone already.
Jade and I sang a song to greet the re-born Sun, and talked about how each year it's "reborn" on the
longest night. I would have liked to do more, but just didn't have the time or energy to prepare anything
special.

It's official.
After four years with the same company, the time has come for Nick to move on. We knew it
was coming, so the announcement came as no surprise, or even disappointment. Thirty days to create a
kickass resume, scope out the job market, network a bit, and find a new job. No problem. :-)

Time for an Update on Us
We did get the place we were hoping for, and it it REALLY nice. I'm pleased with it. The little
amenities that the owner had installed are amazing luxuries. For eaxmple, who knew that a double
headed shower was one of the best inventions for getting ya out of the house in the morning? And a
soak in a Jacuzzi Bathtub after a tough day? HEAVEN! I think my only complaint has to do with how dry
the air seems to be. But that could be because I'm fighting off a nasty chest cold.
The girls seem to be adjusting just fine. Jade wasn't too sure about some of the new rules, for
example, the "food stays on the hard floor" rule. Since we have such nice carpet, and laminate is under
the dining table, there is just no reason to have food on the carpet. But she does like the fact that we're
all sitting down together at the table to eat a LOT more often. Nova is just Nova. She likes the big
mirrors in my room, and the little toddler bed is now set up next to the waterbed (vs as a crib in the other
room). And they seem to be enjoying the trips to the park and library.
Nick is still working for the same company-- For the moment. We're both a little nervous about having
signed a 6 month lease, giving that state of job insecurity he's experiencing. But, we're happy here, and
theoretically, we plan on staying here in the Bay Area indefinately. I know that everything will work out for
the best.

So how's everyone's Holiday Season going?
If it's not going so hot, forgive yourself, spend a little time pampering yourself and showing your
loved ones that you care. It will improve. Even if it feels like it's never going to get better.
