Adventures in Homelearning
This year Jade will be doing Kindergarten at home.
Staying at home can run a mother through the gamut. It
can be intense- joyous and distressing. For me, although I
occasionally entertain the idea of packing my kids off to
school, the benefits of staying home with them, learning
and growing together as a family, far outweigh the disadvantages.

It clicked! She's reading!!
Suddenly, it seems that Jade "gets it." What's "it" you ask? She seems to have suddenly realized that
the black squiggily shapes in books- print- actually represent sounds. And if you know what sound each letter
symbolizes, you can stretch them all out, stringing them up, and making words! This weekend she
read quite a few words while we were hanging out at Daddy's work. She needed help because she only
*knows* a handful of the letters and their sounds. But she can read MAT, so I wrote CAT and told her the
sound that "C" makes. Then it was on to hat, pat, bat, sat, etc, etc. Yesterday she flew through the S lesson
in Phonics Pathways. Today we worked on M. And she read me Book 1 in the the first Bob Book Series.
Then she read it to her Dad. She is thrilled, and I am thrilled for her too. She's getting to be such a big kid!
